Idyll 2006 Gewürztraminer

Sourced from our river-flat vineyard the 2006 Gewürztraminer showed great promise as it ripened through the summer months; displaying concentrated lychee and citrus flavours early on in its development.
At full ripeness the fruit was hand-harvested then crushed into a sealed wine-press where it was held to maximise the extraction of aromas and flavours that are concentrated in the skins of this variety. The juice was then clarified, cooled and transferred to stainless steel tanks where it was inoculated and underwent a cool-fermentation.

Delicate floral and spice aromas arouse the senses and demand to be mulled over to fully appreciate a variety that seems to be hidden away these days. Some chalky acid matches a potpourri of tastes with obvious perfumed violet, rose and cinnamon and these flavours carry through on a very long finish. 8.4/10
